Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt hotel fortune, paid for his 2022 re-election campaign almost entirely himself: $152 million of his own money, according to campaign filings reported by NBC News.
It was his second self-funded race. Across 2018 and 2022 he put about $323 million into his own campaigns, and in 2022 he gave another $24 million to the Democratic Governors Association. Forbes put his fortune at $4.2 billion in September 2026.
$152 million could feed about 1.4 million hungry kids three meals a day for a whole year. To Pritzker, it cost what about $6,981 costs a typical American family.
