Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, married Radhika Merchant in Mumbai over a week of ceremonies in July 2024. The celebrations had started months earlier, with pre-wedding parties headlined by Rihanna, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, and a cruise through Europe with performances by Andrea Bocelli and the Backstreet Boys.

Indian business press put the total at about Rs 5,000 crore, roughly $600 million. Some estimates ran as high as $1 billion; we use the lower figure.

At the lower figure, the wedding cost about 6,860 years of a typical American household’s income. For the Ambani family, Forbes put Mukesh Ambani’s fortune at $99.7 billion this year: the wedding was well under one percent of it.
