Jeff Bezos married Lauren Sánchez in Venice in June 2025, in celebrations that ran over three days. The event drew protests in the city about the effect of the very rich on a place already struggling with overtourism.
Estimates of the cost vary widely. Forbes put it at a minimum of $20 million. Regional officials in Veneto, cited by Reuters, put it at $47 million to $56 million. Italy’s tourism ministry argued the city would see about $1.1 billion in economic benefit. We use the lowest figure.
