Koru was built by the Dutch yard Oceanco, starting in 2021, and delivered in April 2023. At 127 meters, or 417 feet, it is a schooner with room for 18 guests and a crew of 40. Its reported price is $500 million.
Koru is a sailing yacht, and its masts leave no room for a helicopter. So a second ship follows it: Abeona, a 75-meter support vessel built by Damen and reported at a further $75 million, with a helipad. Lauren Sánchez, a helicopter pilot, has been photographed landing on it.
Two ships, one owner, 6,574 years of a typical household’s income.
Taken together, the two ships come to about $575 million. Measured against the median American household income of $87,460, that is more than 6,500 years of a family’s earnings, before taxes and before a single dollar is spent on rent or food.
Koru is reported at $500 million; the support vessel Abeona at a further $75 million.
